I’m Laurie Gries, an Assistant Professor with a joint appointment in Communication and the Program of Writing and Rhetoric at the University of Colorado-Boulder.
Generally, my research centers on rhetoric, writing, and visual/material culture. I am particularly interested in forging connections between rhetoric, actor-network theory, and new materialism. My recently published book, Still Life with Rhetoric, draws on a wide range of interdisciplinary scholarship and focuses on circulation, visual/material rhetorics, methodology, and history. To gain a sense of my scholarship, on the whole, by reading article abstracts, listening to podcasts, and/or visiting my blog. A more formal sketch of my background, pursuits, and areas of focus is available in my curriculum vitae.
My graduate and undergraduate courses focus on writing, rhetoric, theory, new media with a particular emphasis on theory and research. I have also been heavily involved with an interdisciplinary team working to strengthen research and teaching in the Digital Humanities.
